How do I keep my servers safe from 'Hackers' and 'Griefers'?
If your server is a private server, and has been trashed by people you don't even know, turn Whitelisting on!
Whitelisting keeps track of who joins your server, and who actually can join your server, if you are whitelisted on the server, and whitelisting in the server.properties has been changed to 'true', you must add yourself to 'Whitelist.txt' in the main server directory.
Follow these steps to enable Whitelisting.
- Stop your server through multicraft.
- Open up the 'Files' tab, and open the link 'Config Files'.
- Find 'Server Settings' and change whitelisting from disabled to enabled.
- Now save the config, and go back to the Config Files page.
- Open up 'Whitelisted Players' and add your name and friends' names to the config.
- Remember to save it!
- Start your server and ensure that hackers cannot come in.
If your server is a Public server, meaning opened to everybody, you may need to try plugins such as 'Core Inspect' which uses log-blocking technology of minecraft and sees who breaks blocks and you can rollback, and use WorldEdit+WorldGuard to protect areas, and add people to areas which they are allowed to build in.
